Motivation to listen...
Reflecting on my journey through various roles in life, I've come to cherish the deep fulfillment that comes from connecting with and supporting others. Whether it's been in my cherished role as a mother, my previous chapter as a wife and business partner, or even during my younger years in Emergency Medical Services and Customer Service. The heart of it all has always been about being there for people.
I remember being a teenager working at one of my first jobs as an inbound Customer Service Representative for a cellular provider. I recall feeling anxious about handling calls from frustrated customers. Over time, I discovered that simply being willing to listen was transformative. Conversations that started with anger and stress often ended with laughter and shared stories. People would eventually seem to feel at ease knowing their concerns were heard. The majority of calls would transform into shared information on their favorite travel spots, and telling me jokes. Sometimes these conversations would continue for hours. Many confided in me about their personal struggles and heartbreaks. Revealing a profound loneliness that could be eased just by having someone to talk to.
These experiences taught me the incredible importance of having someone to turn to. It’s vital to have a person who listens without judgment, offering comfort and compassion. Being that person for someone else filled my soul, reminding me that in a world where so many people feel alone, a listening ear can make all the difference.
